Ah Seng Braised Duck Rice

Had the opportunity to visit Serangoon Garden Market for lunch last week. I usually come for dinner when most stalls are closed. Finally got a chance to try Ah Seng braised duck rice which had a pretty long lunch queue when I was there. Thankfully, the queue moves pretty fast.

Along with the braised duck, had some additional items such as tau kwa (tofu) and tau pok (beancurd skin). Nearly went with the cabbage dish, but decided against it.

I thought that the braised duck and the tau kwa / tau pok were pretty good. No complaints though M found the gravy to be a little on the salty side. The issue for me is the rice. For duck rice, I usually prefer to have yam rice or rice cooked in the braising sauce. White rice with braised duck is a bit of a downer for me. Putting gravy on top of it is not an alternative. Hence, while the main ingredient (braised duck) was pretty good, felt a little let down by the rice (which does affect overall impressions somewhat). If you’re not too fussed about the type of rice though, then definitely Ah Seng Braised Duck is a good lunch option if you’re in the area.
