After our previous jaunt to Tekka market for briyani, M and I headed back two days later for some Teochew braised duck instead.
The signboard reads “goose and duck rice” but duck rice is what they sell. They did used to sell goose as well but with supply issues, they have concentrated on just selling duck instead. While it would be nice to have the option of eating goose meat, I don’t think the decision to just focus on selling duck has harmed the stall much. The stall is popular and the perpetual queue attests to such a claim.
Located on the ‘Chinese’ side of Tekka market, it is opened 6 days a week, closed on Mondays. Despite the queue, it moves really fast. On top of braised duck, you can also add eggs or tofu (taw kua).
The duck was delicious, really tender, but the key here is the sauce (which was super addictive). They pour some on your rice, but I kept scooping more. The garlicky herbal-ish soup that came with the duck was also delicious.
Together with some fresh sugar cane juice, we had a really delicious and filling lunch. For two of us, the meal cost $10 (including the addition of tofu).
