Salt

Salt, the iconic restaurant perched on top of ION shopping centre in Orchard, is well known for its steaks and fine dining ambiance. However, it also offers afternoon tea sets which seems to be quite the range in Singapore recently. It makes sense. After all, the distance between lunch and dinner can sometimes be too long.

For our August get together, the ladies decided to have it at Salt this time. Salt is located on the 55th floor of ION shopping centre. What it means is that on a clear day, you get clear 360 degree view of Singapore. Even the toilet is designed such that it affords you a pretty nice view over the city while washing your hands. Imagine that!

The afternoon tea set is priced at $38++ and comes with the following, including tea and/or coffee

Crostini, avocado, cherry tomato, olive
Ham & turkey, beetroot, manchego, tortilla
Smoked salmon, cucumber, chive, crème cheese on rye
Chocolate & jam lamington
Coffee macaroon
Tim tam chocolate tart
Red velvet cup cake
Anzac biscuit
Citrus marshmallow
Scones

I thought the high tea offerings were more on the sweet than savoury side and I was hoping for more of the later. I didn’t find the selections particularly memorable, I realized on hindsight that I had been paying more for the view and service, rather than the food. The best high tea experience I had still remains to be at the Fullerton Hotel, where the tea creations were more interesting and while it was a bit more expensive, the servings were free flow. Nevertheless, the service at SALT was pretty good and the ladies and I had a few enjoyable hours sitting and chatting with each other.
