We are now in the middle of the year where on top of the normally soaring temperature, it gets really really humid and hot in Singapore. I met this guy from overseas yesterday who complained incessantly about it. Today, while on my way home from church, I was filling rather thirsty and in the need for something cooling. Hence, decided to get some grass jelly dessert as a treat. Continue reading
Meat Smith is the sister outlet to the ever popular Burnt Ends (which is very very difficult to score reservations at). While Meat Smith does not take reservations unless you’re a big group of 8 and above, given the bigger restaurant space, the odds of getting a table is much higher than at Burnt Ends. The focus of the restaurant is on smoked meats, so don’t waste your time on ordering salads at this place, you’re unlikely to get much satisfaction if you do. Continue reading
I’ve been to Roadhouse a number of times and I’ve always had quite good meals here. Hence, when I had a burger craving recently, I knew that it was time to go back to Roadhouse. Continue reading
When E suggested going to 4 Fingers for lunch, everyone’s faces lit up while mine remained blank.
“Korean fried chicken” was the explanation.
Ah! Now the excitement made sense. You could never go wrong with fried chicken. Continue reading
Located in a relatively quieter part of Orchard road, Hana is a Japanese restaurant that offers several daily promotions to the discerning customer. On Mondays, the restaurant offers a $30++ omakase dinner promotion which E and I got to try recently. We were just fortunate to be around the area on a Monday night and decided to opt for the omakase since we were both quite hungry. Continue reading
Someone gave M a bunch of vouchers for crystal jade restaurants along with some suggestions that went contrary to the terms and conditions on the back of the voucher. So, just to play safe and not go running into some big trap, we decided to go check out the validity of the voucher at one of their more casual outlets. Turns out that the vouchers were valid but we ended up not using them because Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao offers quite a value for money lunch set on weekdays. For $8.80++, you get to choose from a selection of their mains, along with an appetizer and drink. The portions of the mains served in the lunch set remain the same, so considering that most of the mains cost between $8 – $11 a la carte, it makes sense to opt for the lunch set. Continue reading
Since I eat out quite a bit, I’ve discovered heaps of places that I never really knew existed in Singapore. Sometimes these places are places that have just opened and sometimes these places are places which have been around for ages. This tells you two things. First, the eating scene in Singapore is humongous. Second, I just haven’t been out a lot. Continue reading
When I first told E about the fusion European type of food I had at the Missing Pan, she looked at me with this look of horror and extreme skepticism. “Chicken curry lasagna what ?!”
The moment I had read about the Beast, I was really eager to check it out. Southern American food in Singapore? Surely this place has discovered a niche in the Singapore food scene that has not been filled yet? The girls were really keen to try this place out as well, so a date was set. Continue reading
“Do you know that we have been around for 30 years!”
The salesgirl told me proudly as she handed me the bag of cakes I had bought. Amused and surprised at her enthusiasm, I could only manage a smile and a nod of my head in acknowledgment as I left the shop. It was purely by surprise that I discovered this shop while I was walking back to the car after lunch at Guan Hoe Soon (just a few doors down). It was also purely by coincidence that I discovered the entertainment app was having a monthly promotion for this particular cake shop while standing outside the very same shop and I was curious enough to see what the store was offering. Continue reading
